Animated History of the NYC Subway
There's a good chance you saw this on Gothamist, but I wanted to put it here anyway for like Posterity 'n' Stuff, Inc.
History of the New York City Subway system: an animated GIF starts with a blank subway map and draws each line in the sequence in which it was built.

yessss i love this map. i think its interesting that it leaves off the W and V trains (RIP), and that it considers the end of the J and the Prospect Park Shuttle the first trains (I guess they were electric elevated trains? and the IRT were the first subterranean?)
ReplyDeletealso, in line with the W/V weirdness, I find it odd that the final map still has the G going to Forest Hills. My guess is that the final source map here is earl 2000's?
